Conflicted by Zchanning Conflicted by Zchanning
I often us stock by *SenshiStock as references for my drawings, so when I saw that she was having a contest ([link].) I knew I HAD to enter, busy or not! The challenge for the contest was to draw something relating to ourselves or our perception of ourselves. Life has thrown a lot of nasty curveballs at me here lately (it LOVES doing that doesn't it?) and some of the hard decisions that I've been having to make gave me the inspiration.

This painting isn't necessarily about good versus evil. If everything was black and white, life would be a whole lot easier! This is more about those times when we're forced into making a decision where there is no good option either because we're just so deeply conflicted, or because picking either side means denying part of who we are.

That's what I've been going through lately in a nutshell, but I hope it's something that you guys can also relate to. Thanks to `faestock for the beautiful reference photo! [link]

I meant to write this earlier but didn't have the time to sit down and say what I wanted to say.

First off, extreme impact here. I had to check to make sure it wasn't a photomanipulation! That's how realistic it looks. Those feathers are wonderful, my brain is really racking up just how long that could take, but I ran out of fingers and toes..

I took half a star off of originality just because the theme is light versus dark (in general that's what I read it as) but the execution and the division with the wings is something I haven't really seen, so kudos on that! The only thing I would take another look at would be the "dark" wing. I can't quite put a finger on it, but something seems a bit off. If I were to guess it would be the texture is overpowering the shading or something similar, it doesn't seem as round as the other wing. I only notice this because I stared at it for quite some time, trying to figure out what to suggest to work on. (You make this part of the review difficult!)

This is truly a fabulous piece with so much going for it. The background blends seamless between the two spheres of influence. It "reads" really well and not only demonstrates a point, it is extremely well executed. I wish you the best in that contest, although I know you'll do wonderfully!!
